“Believe it or not, planning begins in May each year. This year we decided to recreate the East and West Wings as well. A lot of love goes into this 500-pound gingerbread house!” —Susie Morrison, head pastry chef at the White House #WHHolidays

The President and First Lady Create a Spotify Christmas Playlist

President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama released their favorite holiday tunes on @Spotify just in time for Christmas. Listen now at go.wh.gov/ObamaHoliday.

Spending time with our children and grandchildren is our favorite part of the holiday season. We have photos of them all around the house, of course, but they’re incorporated throughout our holiday decorations, too. These little chalkboards with their names on them hang above the fireplace in our foyer. The backing you see under the garland is made of crayons. I hope you’ve enjoyed seeing a few of the decorations at the @VP’s Residence. From Joe and I, and the whole Biden family, happy holidays to you and yours. God bless our troops and their families. –@DrBiden #WHHolidays

This tree in our library is particularly special to me. Earlier this year, as part of my #JoiningForces initiative with First Lady @MichelleObama, I had the opportunity to visit Kadena Air Base in Okinawa, Japan. The sea-glass ornaments you see here were crafted by military-connected children who live on Kadena Air Base. It’s easy for many Americans to forget that we still have men and women serving all around the world, along with their families. No matter the challenge, they serve with honor and distinction and I’m proud to display their artwork in our home. –@DrBiden #WHHolidays #KidsServeToo

If you guessed that this gingerbread house replica of the Joseph R. Biden train station in Wilmington, Delaware is Joe’s favorite item at the house this year, you were right. It’s a station that’s certainly become familiar to us. For his entire career, Joe’s been making the 90-minute train ride from Wilmington to Washington and back, and we still frequently do. It’s hard to believe that this is the first time we’ve had a gingerbread train station at the @VP’s Residence but I’m sure it won’t be the last. –@DrBiden #WHHolidays

Teaching is my passion – it’s a rich, fulfilling and challenging career, and I’ve done it for most of my life. As Second Lady, I’ve tried to lift up the teaching profession because I know firsthand how rewarding it is – and I believe it’s one of the best ways we have to shape the future of our nation. Here’s an education-inspired tree in the foyer of the @VP’s Residence at the Naval Observatory. Next to it sits a vintage school desk and a life-sized replica of a “scholarly” Champ – our family’s German Shepard. This tree is really special to me. –@DrBiden #WHHolidays
